  Vermont Milk Commission

Title 6 Chapter 161 established the Vermont Milk Commission in 1991 in response to the recognition of the General Assembly that dairy farming is of paramount importance in maintaining a strong economy in the state and in preserving the state’s rural character. The Vermont Milk Commission, by state statute, can act to “insure an adequate supply of clean, pure milk and cream of proper quality to meet the needs of the inhabitants of this state and to ensure the continuing economic vitality of the dairy industry by stabilizing the price received by farmers for their milk at a level allowing them an equitable rate of return.” The Vermont Milk Commission has the authority to regulate the retail price of milk in Vermont in the interest of ensuring an equitable economic return to dairy farmers.
